Encouragement for women going through hard times — a woman standing in faith, trusting God in difficult seasons

Are you going through a hard time right now? Maybe things have not gone the way you planned. Maybe you have been carrying a weight that feels too heavy. Maybe you have been praying and waiting, and the answer has not come yet. If that is where you are, you are not alone — and you are not without hope.

This article is written for the woman who is tired but still trying. For the new believer who is wondering if faith is real. For anyone who has been going through hard times and needs a reminder that God is still at work, even when life feels silent.

Here is the truth: the fact that you are still here, still reading, still reaching — that is itself a sign of God’s grace in your life. You have not given up. And that matters more than you know.

“God didn’t make a mistake when He created you. You are more than enough. The challenges that really break you will make you stronger.”

GOD SEES YOU IN YOUR HARD TIME

One of the biggest lies that hard times tell us is that God is not paying attention. When we are struggling — when the bills are piling up, the relationship is broken, the health is failing, the grief is fresh — it can feel like God has gone quiet. Like He is somewhere far away and we are here, alone, trying to figure it all out.

But the Bible tells a very different story. From the very beginning, God has seen His people in their pain. He saw Hagar crying in the wilderness, and He came to her. He heard Hannah weeping in the temple, and He answered her prayer. He watched over Ruth as she worked faithfully in the fields, and He rewarded her loyalty beyond what she could have imagined.

These were real women. They had real struggles. They cried real tears. And God saw every single one of them.

He sees you, too. Right now, in the middle of whatever hard time you are facing, He has not looked away. He has not grown tired of your prayers. He has not moved on. In fact, the Bible says He is close to the brokenhearted. That means the harder things get, the closer He draws near.

Scripture: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18 (NIV)

FOR THE NEW BELIEVER — IT IS OKAY NOT TO HAVE IT ALL FIGURED OUT

If you are new to faith and going through a hard time, this part is especially for you. One thing nobody always tells you when you first come to God is that becoming a believer does not mean life suddenly becomes easy. Trials still come. Questions still come. Doubt still knocks at the door.

That is normal. That is not a sign that your faith is weak. It is actually a sign that your faith is growing. Think about it this way: a seed does not become a tree overnight. It goes into the ground, and for a while, nothing looks like it is happening. But underneath the surface, roots are forming, reaching deeper, getting stronger.

Your faith works the same way. Every prayer you pray, even when you are not sure anyone is listening — those are roots going deeper. Every time you open your Bible, even when you do not understand everything, those roots go deeper. Every Sunday you choose to show up, every moment you choose God over giving up — roots, going deeper.

Do not be discouraged by where you are. Be encouraged by the direction you are heading. You are growing, even now, even in this hard time.

A simple step for new believers: Open your Bible to the book of Psalms. Read one Psalm a day. You will find people who cried out to God in pain and lived to write about His faithfulness. Let their words become your prayers until you find your own.

HARD TIMES DO NOT MEAN GOD HAS FORGOTTEN HIS PLAN FOR YOU

One of the most powerful stories of going through hard times in the entire Bible is the story of Joseph. He was sold by his own brothers. He was thrown into prison for something he did not do. Year after year passed, and things kept getting harder instead of better. If anyone had a reason to give up on God, it was Joseph.

But Joseph held on. He stayed faithful in the prison just like he had been faithful in the palace. He kept his character when no one was watching. And when God finally moved, He moved in a way that Joseph could never have planned for himself. What his brothers meant for evil, God used for good — not just for Joseph, but for an entire nation.

Your hard time is not the end of your story. God has a purpose for what you are going through. He is working something out, something that is bigger than you can see from where you are standing right now. Hold on. Stay faithful. Your breakthrough is being built in the background.

Scripture: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” — Romans 8:28 (NIV)

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE GIVING UP

There will be days when encouragement feels like it is not enough. When you have read the scripture, said the prayer, and still feel like you cannot keep going. Those days are real. God knows about them. And even on those days, there are things you can do to keep yourself anchored.

First, be honest with God. You do not have to dress up your prayers. Tell Him exactly how you feel. David did it in the Psalms — he cried out, he complained, he said he felt forgotten. And God called David a man after His own heart. God is not afraid of your honesty. He can handle every feeling you bring to Him.

Second, find one person who will stand with you. We were never meant to go through hard times alone. The Bible says that when two or three gather in His name, He is there. A praying friend, a church sister, a pastor, a trusted woman in your community — someone who will sit with you, pray with you, and remind you of who God is when you forget.

Third, remember what God has already done. Even in your hardest season, look back. Has He brought you through things before? Has He provided when you did not see how? Has He kept you when you felt like falling? That track record is your evidence that He is not finished with you now.

“Where are the people who will remain, who will stay, who will plant their feet firm and choose faithfulness? Be one of those people.”

YOU ARE AN OVERCOMER — EVEN ON THE HARD DAYS

The word “overcomer” does not mean someone who never struggles. It means someone who struggles and keeps going anyway. It means someone who cries in the night and still gets up in the morning. It means someone who says, “Lord, I do not understand this season, but I trust You in it.”

That is you. Every woman reading this who is going through a hard time and has not quit — you are already overcoming. You may not feel like it. Life may not look like it. But in God’s eyes, faithfulness in the storm is one of the most beautiful things He sees.

He is not disappointed in you. He is not tired of you. He is cheering you on. And one day — maybe sooner than you think — you will look back at this hard time, and you will see exactly what He was doing. You will see the beauty that grew from the pain. You will see the strength that the struggle has built in you. And you will be able to take another woman by the hand and say, “I went through that too. Let me show you the way through.”

Scripture: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13 (NKJV)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How can I find encouragement when I am going through a really hard time?

A: Start with the Psalms — they are full of honest prayers from people in pain who still chose to trust God. Reach out to a church community for support, and give yourself permission to be honest with God about how you feel. He already knows, and He welcomes your honesty.

Q: As a new believer, why is my faith being tested so soon?

A: Hard times do not mean God has abandoned you. In fact, the Bible says that testing produces perseverance, and perseverance builds strong character. Going through difficulties as a new believer is part of how your roots go deeper. Stay in God’s Word and stay connected to other believers — you will come out stronger.

Q: Does God really care about what I am going through?

A: Yes — completely and without question. Psalm 34:18 says God is close to the brokenhearted. He is not far from your pain. He is in the middle of it with you, working things together for your good, even when you cannot see it yet.

Q: How do I grow spiritually when life is hard?

A: Growth often happens fastest in hard seasons. Pray honestly, read Scripture daily, find a believing community, and journal what God is teaching you. Over time, you will look back and see how much you grew — not in spite of the difficulty, but because of it.

CLOSING PRAYER

Father, I lift up every woman reading these words right now. The ones who are tired, the ones who are confused, the ones who are holding on by a thread. Meet them right where they are. Let them feel Your presence today. Remind them that they are not forgotten, not too far gone, and not alone. Give them the strength to take one more step. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

You are loved. You are seen. Keep going.
